The Inupiat village of Nuiqsut has been surrounded by land that has been auctioned off for oil and gas development. These are lands that the Nuiqsut depend on to maintain their subsistence way of life and their culture.

The Native Village of Nuiqsut is urging the Bureau of Land Management, along with government and industry actors, to mitigate the damages caused by the oil industry in order to ensure the natural processes the Nuiqsut depend on are not disrupted.
