Indigenous Peoples' Day MA
United American Indians of New England and their allies are currently fighting to get Boston (and eventually the whole state of Massachusetts) to recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day as an official holiday.
Indigenous Peoples’ Day recognizes and celebrates the heritage of Native Americans and the history of their Tribes within the United States of America. By changing the holiday from Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples' Day, the holiday recognizes the historic and ongoing painful impacts that Columbus's and other European colonists' arrival in the Americas had on Indigenous peoples. Massachusetts needs to set the historical record straight in order to respect the culture, language and traditional lifestyles of the Indigenous ancestors who existed long before Columbus’s voyage.
