In 2015 over 3 million gallons of toxic waste from the inactive Gold King mine cascaded into Colorado’s Animas River. The Navajo Nation has sued the United States government for $160 million in damages and ongoing injuries due to the spill.

The EPA acknowledged responsibility for the spill, but has refused to compensate Navajo residents. Learn more.
